The highest mountain in Brazil is Pico da Neblina. It is 2,994 meters above sea level and is located partly in the Guiana Highlands on the Brazil-Venezuela border.
Pico da Neblina means "Peak of the Mists" in Portuguese. Based on a border survey in 1962, the peak is barely within the territory of Brazil. In the official records, the mountain is in the state of Amazonas in the municipality of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro. However, Pico da Neblina is inaccessible from this area.
Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira is the closest city to the peak where almost all mountain climbers depart. The first to reach the summit of Pico da Neblina was a Brazilian Army expedition in 1965.
