The Sanborn Air Compressor Company was established in Springfield, Minnesota and was acquired by Coleman Powermate, Inc. in 1994, according to About Air Compressors. The Sanborn air compressor Black Max has been discontinued and the Sanborn line of equipment names have been replaced by Coleman Powermate model numbers.

Although the Sanborn air compressors have been discontinued and are no longer made, some compressors and parts may be available online, notes Inside Woodworking online magazine.

New Powermate compressors are available at retail outlets or online at Powermate's website. Powermate is currently the leading supplier of air compressors as well as generators, water pumps and air tools.
