What is the biography of John Thurman?

John Thurman, a former U.S. representative, was born on October 6, 1814 and died on July 24, 1854. He was born as John Richardson Thurman in New York City.

In 1835, he graduated from Columbia College. Then he moved near Chestertown, N.Y., and got involved in agricultural activities and some business ventures. He also invested in land.

John Thurman held many offices including that of an associate judge. He was chosen as one of the Whigs of the Thirty-first Congress. He worked as a U.S. representative from March 4, 1849 to March 3, 1851. Though he was given the chance to be reappointed, he refused the offer. After leaving office, he spent his remaining years managing his estate.
