Who was Ho Chi Minh?

Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the Vietnamese nationalist movement, the founder of the French communist party and the President of North Vietnam between 1954 and 1969. Ho Chi Minh also founded the communist Vietnamese independence movement known as the Viet Minh.

Ho Chi Minh is known for his role in fighting against Japan, France, South Vietnam and the United States. Ho Chi Minh's ultimate goal was independence from French colonialism and a united, sovereign and communist Vietnam. His original name was Nguyen That Thanh, but he adopted the name "Ho Chi Minh," which translates to "Bringer of Light."
