The standard 1963 quarter includes the same Washington head of 25-cent issues today but with a 90 percent silver content and precious metal weight of .1808 troy ounce. Silver quarters were minted from 1932 to 1964; the following year marked the introduction of copper and nickel quarters.

A total of 135,288,000 coins were produced between the Denver (D) and Philadelphia (unmarked) mints. Since roughly 64 percent of the quarters were minted in Denver, unmarked coins without the "D" designation are slightly more desirable to collectors. As of 2014, CoinTrackers.com estimates the value of the quarter at anywhere from $6 to $15, depending on the condition.
