What are cryptoquip puzzles?

A cryptoquip puzzle is a word puzzle made up of encrypted text. To solve it, one must determine the type of code used to originally encode the message.

Usually a cryptoquip puzzle is comprised of a well-known phrase or quote. At first glance, it may seem impossible to solve. Starting with small one or two-letter words, however, is the key to success. Once a person has a letter in its correct spot, he or she can then fill that letter in throughout the rest of the puzzle. At that point, other longer words may become clear, and one can follow that same course of action to complete the entire phrase.
