What is a shiny Ninetails?

Ninetales is a type of Pokémon. In the Pokémon video games, players can sometimes obtain a "shiny" version of Ninetales that has an alternate silver coloration.

Aside from their appearance, shiny Pokémon are no different from their normal counterparts. Ninetales somewhat resembles a fox, except with a prominent mane and nine tails. It evolved from Vulpix and can be found in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, LeafGreen, XD, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum and SoulSilver. The formula to determine if a Vulpix will turn into the shiny version of Ninetales when it evolves varies by game. Their number in the Pokedex also has different colorations, again varying by game.
