The standard dartboard has an 18-inch diameter. For regulation play, the center of the bull's-eye is 5 feet 8 inches from the floor. The distance, known as the oche, from the front of the board to the throwing line is 7 feet 9.25 inches for steel-tip darts.

A regulation dart board has 20 equally-sized pie-shaped sections. Each of the sections is given a number one through 20. When placed on the wall, the dartboard should be flush against the wall with the number 20 at the 12-o'clock position. Though the height of the bull's-eye is the same for both steel-tip and soft-tip darts, the oche is slightly longer for soft-tip darts at 8 feet.
