What is the holiday schedule of the NYSE?

In 2015, the New York Stock Exchange closes on New Year's Day, on Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and on Feb. 16 for George Washington's birthday. The exchange is also closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The exchange is also closed on Good Friday, which is April 3, and Memorial Day, May 25. Closures also occur on July 3 and July 4 for Independence Day, and Labor Day, Sept. 7. On Friday Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving, the exchange closes at 1 P.M. It also closes at 1 P.M. on Christmas Eve.

The exchange is open the day before Good Friday as well as on the Friday before Memorial Day. It is also open on Columbus Day, Veterans Day and New Year's Eve.

The New York Stock Exchange Arca Equities, which is fully electronic, operates on the same schedule as the New York Stock Exchange. However, its closing hours may differ from the 1 P.M. closing times on the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. The Nasdaq also follows the same schedule as the New York Stock Exchange.

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association makes schedule recommendations for the bond market, which is decentralized, and recommends closure on most holidays and 2 P.M. early closures on a few days.
