Homemade nail polish removers include lemon juice and vinegar, aerosol deodorant, rubbing alcohol and hairspray. When using fresh-squeezed lemon juice and vinegar, the nails should be soaked in warm water, then the two ingredients should be combined in a bowl and applied with a cotton ball.

Spray deodorant should be sprayed on the nails, then removed with a cotton ball. When using hairspray, the chemical must be removed from the nails before it dries. Simply soaking a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and rubbing the nails with the cotton ball removes nail polish as well, but is not as effective for difficult-to-remove polish.
