Honda CR-Vs from 2002-2005 were a part of a global airbag recall. The recall targeted all vehicles with Takata-specific air bags due to a manufacturer defect that could result in injury or death for the driver and their passengers.

The airbag recall impacted over 5 million vehicles. The recall was do to a manufacturer defect that would trigger when the airbag exploded, sending small fragments of metal into the cabin. The CR-V was not the only vehicle to be recalled; other makes, including Toyota and Subaru, had issues with their respective models.

The recall impacted many vehicles to the point at which repair shops had to leave some cars without a replacement unit until more Takata airbags arrived.
