What are HUD assistance programs?

HUD assistance programs are offered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The department assists in urban and rural community development, as well as has programs that offer financial assistance to low-income households.

One of the most well-known assistance programs offered by HUD is the rental assistance program. HUD provides funding and helps low-income families find affordable housing through privately owned subsidized housing, public housing programs, and the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. Along with the rental assistance programs, the department is also responsible for ensuring community residents receive fair treatment under the Fair Housing Assistance Program. HUD also offers community planning and development programs, health care facility loans, Indian programs, lead hazard control and other programs.
