Does it hurt to use a tampon?

Position is important with tampons, as they need to be pushed far enough up into the vagina to be comfortable. If a tampon is uncomfortable, The Center for Young Women's Health recommends taking it out and trying a new one. The organization also recommends aiming the tampon toward the back. Also, if it is a woman's first time to using one, she should try a small, slim tampon, as it may be easier to insert than a larger one.
