People who suffer from laryngopharyngeal reflux disease, or LPR, can eat a regular diet with restrictions on certain foods, including fats, chocolate, carbonated beverages and citrus foods, according to WebMD. Persons with LPR should also restrict caffeine, red wine, tomato-based products and spicy foods in their diets.

It is important for those afflicted with LPR to avoid eating in the three hours leading up to bedtime, advises WebMD. Avoiding alcohol can also help. Elevating the head of the bed from 4 to 6 inches, quitting smoking and losing weight may also provide relief. LPR sufferers should avoid clothing that fits tightly around the waist and chew gum to neutralize acid and increase saliva.
