What information should be included in a fax cover letter?

A fax cover sheet should identify the name and number of the recipient of the fax, the number of pages to follow and the subject. It should also include the sender’s name, phone number, email address and fax number, with an indication of whether the fax is urgent.

The cover sheet should also contain an area for a note or comment that is not part of the official document to request a reply, add an explanation or provide additional information. Many fax covers also contain a privacy notice directing unintended recipients to give it to the person named on the cover. The privacy notice may be important for businesses that handle sensitive or confidential information.
