What are inherent powers?

Inherent powers refer to the authority possessed by a state without being derived from another state. In the United States, the president derives inherent powers from the Constitution.

Article II of the Constitution of the United States specifies that the president must make sure that "laws are faithfully executed." This is the clause used by all presidents to expand their inherent powers. One of the most important types of inherent powers of the presidents are executive orders. Determining how vigorously a law should be enforced, responding to a crisis and commanding the armed forces are further inherent powers of the president.
