What is Instagram?

Instagram is a social networking website based upon sharing pictures with other users. Instagram allows users to take a photograph and then use one of the site's filters to alter the picture before uploading it so that other users can see it and post comments about it.

The name for Instagram comes from combining they way old cameras were marketed as “instant” and the way pictures were being sent over the wires to other users, like a telegram. Instagram was created to solve three basic problems: mobile photos typically never looked very well done, sharing to multiply platforms was a time-consuming process and uploading pictures was too slow and clumsy.
