To install a gas fireplace in an existing firebox, remove the burner pipe, connect the gas line, screw the gas log in place, and turn on the gas. The supplies you need include pipe compound, scissors, a wrench, a gas log and a gas line.
- Remove the burner pipe
Turn off the gas supply, and pull out the log grate. Set it nearby. Use a wrench to disconnect the burner pipe from the wall of the firebox. Pull out the pipe.
- Connect the gas line to the firebox wall
Coat the male end of the gas line with pipe compound, and screw it into the firebox wall connection. Tighten the bond with the wrench.
- Place the gas log
Grasp the gas line close to the wall, and bend it upward. Place the log grate beneath the bent gas line. Coat the gas log nozzle with pipe compound, and center the log on the grate with the nozzle facing the gas line. Screw the female end of the gas line into the nozzle, and tighten the connection with the wrench.
- Turn on the gas
Step back from the firebox, and examine the position of the gas log. Center it if necessary, and restore the gas supply.
