How do you install outdoor pool carpet?

Prepare the surface and unroll the carpet in its location. Allow the carpet to expand for at least an hour and using the double-sided tape, stick it into place, allowing for edge trimming.

Installing indoor-outdoor carpet in a pool area is easy enough to tackle as a home improvement project and can be completed in one day.

1. Prepare the surface

Thoroughly clean and dry the flooring of the pool area. New cement or asphalt flooring should be allowed to cure for at least 30 days before installing carpet.

2. Install at the right temperature

Choose a day to install the carpet when the temperature is between 55 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity is between 10 and 65 percent.

3. Unroll the carpet

Unroll the carpet and allow it to expand for at least an hour.

4. Use tape around the room

Place double-sided tape around the perimeter of the room. Also, place a six-inch-by-six-inch piece of tape every two feet on the floor. Leave the protective paper on the top of the tape.

5. Center the carpet

Center the carpet in the room and position it correctly.

6. Trim the corners

Trim around corners and other objects by making a vertical slice down the carpet. Cut it from the top down for best results.

7. Fit the corners

Fit the corners by making a "V" shaped cut where the carpet overlaps.

8. Fold the carpet

After cutting it to the proper shape and length, fold half of it back.

9. Peel off the protective paper

Peel off the top layer of the protective paper from the tape. Stick the carpet to the tape and press down.

10. Use a carpet roller

Using a 50-pound carpet roller, stick the carpet to the tape.

11. Trim the edges

Using a sharp utility knife, carefully trim the edges of the carpet.
