What is an interesting fact about Mount Stromboli?
By Forinfos - 23/08/2025 - 0 comments
Mount Stromboli has continuous eruptions that occur approximately every 20 minutes. Instead of the cone feature that is commonly associated with volcanoes, Stromboli is in the shape of a horseshoe.
Mount Stromboli is nicknamed "The Lighthouse of the Mediterranean." It derives its name from the light show that occurs when it erupts during the night.
In the period between 1919 to 1930, the volcano experienced large explosions that led to a significant amount of damage and death. The horseshoe shape is the result of part of the volcano collapsing from volcanoes that occurred thousands of years ago. To reach the vantage points of the volcano, tourists have to travel around the island on foot.
