Who invented candy?

The invention of candy started with the ancient people when they discovered the sweet honey produced by bees in their hives. The first candy confections were made by simply rolling nuts and fruits in honey.

Sugar was first manufactured around the Middle Ages, but it was still expensive during that time, so only the rich could afford to buy candy made of sugar. When cacao was discovered by Spanish explorers in Mexico in 1519, chocolate was created. By the 17th century, the price of sugar had gone down and hard candy became popular. By the middle of the 18th century, over 400 factories were already producing candies in the United States.
