Who invented the crowbar?

Though nobody knows who exactly invented the crowbar, it was used as a construction tool as early as the year 1400, when it was first documented in the English language as a "crow," according to Snopes.

The name "crow bar" developed in the mid-1700s because the forked end of the tool is similar to that of a crow's foot or beak, says Snopes. In the mid 1800s, after eliminating confusion between the animal and the tool, the term "crow-bar" or "crowbar" emerged as a part of everyday language. The tool is used to pry apart or remove nails from objects.
