Who invented the tuba?

The first tuba was invented by Edme Guillaume in 1590. It was made of wood and leather. The modern tuba is the creation of Wilhelm Wieprecht and Johann Gottfried Moritz in 1835.

The tuba was created as a way of adding a deep bass element to musical groups. The design of the instrument went through various incarnations as inventors redesigned it to fit the demands of composers and orchestras. Eventually, as the instrument gained popularity and was incorporated into orchestras, composers started creating solo music for the tuba. Today's tuba is made of metal and lends a deep rumble to orchestras.
