Who invented the cathode-ray tube?

The cathode-ray tube, also called Braun's electrometer, was invented by Ferdinand Braun in 1897. The cathode-ray tube was the technology behind most displays, including televisions and computer screens, for over 100 years.

By 2014, cathode-ray tube screens had mostly been replaced by LCDs and plasmas. Nonetheless, the cathode-ray tube was the driving force behind a great deal of 20th-century display technology. Braun's other notable achievement was the sparkless antenna circuit he contributed to Guglielmo Marconi's wireless transmitter, enabling it to send a message across the Atlantic.
