Who invented the first bathtub?

In 1883, an American man named John Michael Kohler invented the world's first bathtub. He added four decorative feet to the bottom of an enamel-covered, cast-iron horse trough and advertised his creation in the center of the Kohler Company's one-page catalog.

The Kohler Company was a factory founded in 1873 by three men, including Jacob Vollrath, John Michael Kohler's father-in-law. The company originally focused on producing products made from steel or iron, but that quickly changed after John Michael Kohler created his famous tub. By 1887, approximately two-thirds of the products produced by the Kohler Company were related to plumbing or enamelware.
