The history of forks goes back to the time of the Greeks, although it is unknown if a specific individual invented them. Original forks were large with two tines used to carve and serve meat. The tines kept meat from moving around during carving.
Royal courts of the Middle East began to use forks in the 7th century A.D. From the 10th through the 13th centuries, many of the wealthy Byzantium people used forks. Italians started widely using forks in the 16th century. In 1533, forks were brought from Italy to France, and then from France to England in 1608.
