Who invented the plastic bag?

Eric Fawcett and Reginald Gibson are responsible for the creation of the plastic bag. Additionally, they are responsible for almost all modern day plastic products because of their discovery of polythene.

When Fawcett and Gibson experimented with gases under high pressure in the 1930s, they produced polythene. Polythene is the basic chemical material that all plastic products are derived from. It was in the 1950s that production became large scale and the plastic was created in two different forms, hard and soft. It was the soft plastics that resulted in plastic bags, which were put into large use by Britain's supermarkets before becoming part of the entire industrialized world.
