Some inventions of the modern age are the telephone, the light bulb, the airplane and television. Other important inventions of the modern age are the automobile and computer.
The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell. He came up with the idea in 1874, and patented it in 1876. The light bulb was thought of and developed by many inventors, but Thomas Edison perfected it, inventing an incandescent bulb that could last for 1,500 hours in 1880.
Inventors throughout history have imagined a flying machine, but the Wright brothers were the first to build and fly a powered airplane. Their first flight, on an airplane called "The Flyer," lasted 12 seconds.
