The Internal Revenue Service's Whistleblower Office pays individuals to report people who are not paying their fair share of taxes, according to the IRS. There is technically no hotline. Those reporting fraud fill out a form and mail it to this office.
The IRS Whistleblower Office pays awards to informants who provide credible and verifiable information that results in the collection of taxes. Educated guesses and speculation without evidence do not qualify, says the IRS. The office's interest is in significant tax violations. Depending on the amount of tax owed, the whistleblower stands to gain as much as 15 to 30 percent of what the IRS collects from the noncompliant taxpayer.
