As of 2015, some Irwin Tools are made in the United States, including Unibit tool parts manufactured in Maine. Tools such as Irwin's famous Vise-Grip are made in China. The Irwin Tools customer service center is located in Huntersville, North Carolina, and the company has headquarters throughout the world.

Irwin Tools manufactured the Vise-Grip in the small town of DeWitt, Nebraska, for more than eight decades. Newell Rubbermaid, which acquired the Vise-Grip brand in 2002, decided in 2008 to relocate the manufacturing operations to China. Irwin Tools told its employees the move was necessary to keep the brand competitive. William Petersen, a Danish immigrant blacksmith, invented Vise-Grip in DeWitt and received a U.S. patent for it in 1924.
