Itching can be a sign of some forms of cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute. Some of these include cancers of the brain, stomach, pancreas, lung, colon, breast and prostate.
Itching due to cancer may be caused by chemicals released by the disease, according to Macmillan Cancer Support. Using a moisturizer made out of an aqueous cream and menthol may help. Other treatment options include bathing in warm but not hot water and applying cool, wet packs to the skin and replacing them when they get warm, according to the American Cancer Society. Wearing loose clothing, using baking soda instead of deodorant and keeping the room cool may also help alleviate the desire to scratch.
