Jamestown is an archaeological site located in Virginia. It was the first permanent English settlement in North America and was founded by approximately 100 people on May 14, 1607.

Jamestown was originally called James Fort when the Virginia Company of London founded it. As of 2014, there are two tourism sites related to Jamestown: Historic Jamestowne and the Jamestown Settlement. The founding of Jamestown is celebrated every 50 years, as it is seen as the starting point of the United States. Jamestown was the capitol of the Colony of Virginia from 1616 to 1699. Jamestown's central statehouse burned down in 1698, leading to Williamsburg becoming the capitol of the colony.
