Who is Jean Shepherd?

Jean Shepherd was an American author and radio personality most famous for writing the book "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash," which became the source material for the classic Christmas movie, "A Christmas Story." In the film, Shepherd voiced the grownup version of the character Ralphie.

Shepherd, who was born on July 26, 1911 in Illinois, died on Oct. 16, 1999 in Florida. His career included work as a radio personality for WOR-AM in New York. He wrote the books "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories, and Other Disasters," "A Fistful of Fig Newtons," "The America of George Ade" and "The Ferrari in the Bedroom."
