What is jet fuel made from?

Jet fuel is made from a mix of hydrocarbon, which are strictly controlled to make sure the freeze point and flash point stay within specific limits. Jet fuel A and A-1, the most common types, are both kerosene-based type fuels and have between eight and 18 carbon atoms per molecule.
Jet fuel B is used for cold weather climates, but it is harder to handle because it is more flammable than the A or A-1 fuels. This type of fuel is approximately 30 percent kerosene and 70 percent gasoline. There are additional grades and mixes for other types of jets, including military ones, due to the various types of situations and climates the military has to fly in.
