Why are JetBlue gift cards no longer available?

As of 2015, the official JetBlue website states that the company no longer sells gift cards. The site gives no explanation for the discontinuation of new gift cards. JetBlue continues to accept all of the company's existing gift cards.

Customers can call JetBlue customer service at 866-534-0219 to redeem JetBlue gift cards or check gift card balances. Up to four gift cards can be redeemed in one transaction, but additional funds can no longer be added to current gift cards.

JetBlue gift cards do not have any maintenance fees, and the cards never expire. JetBlue applies gift cards to commercial flights, but gift cards cannot be used for group bookings or vacation packages.
