In the fibrous joints, the articulating bones are held together by fibrous connective tissue. In the cartilaginous joints, the articulating bones are held together by cartilage. In the synovial joint, the ligaments help in supporting the articulating bones.
Joints make movement of the skeleton possible. They join the bones, teeth and cartilage of the body together. The skeleton has many bones and joints bound together with fibrous tissue, cartilage and ligaments. There are many different joint types, including the synarthrosis, amphiarthrosis and diarthrosis joints. Joints are classified based on functionally, on how much movement is allowed and by the material present at the joint.
