Is Jupiter hot or cold?

Jupiter is, on average, very cold. The average global temperature of the planet is negative 234 degrees Fahrenheit. However, there are areas of the upper atmosphere that can get hot, reaching up to 1,340 degrees F, and the core of the planet could be up to 43,000 degrees F.
At an average distance of 484 million miles away from the sun, Jupiter does not receive much heat from it, and the planet generates most of its available heat energy from convection and the intense atmospheric pressures exerted on gases deep within the atmosphere. Near the core, liquid hydrogen is likely thousands of degrees F, but as altitude increases, the temperature drops rapidly.
