Kalpana Chawla was married to husband Jean-Pierre Harrison until her death on Feb. 1, 2003. According to Harrison Publishing, the pair met on Sept. 2, 1982, and married in December 1983.

According to NASA, Kalpana Chawla was born in Karnal, India. The astronaut died in the 2003 explosion of the space shuttle Columbia.

Jean-Pierre Harrison wrote a book entitled "The Edge of Time: The Authoritative Biography of Kalpana Chawla" that was released in 2011. According to Harrison Publishing, as of 2014, the author lives in California with his new wife and their son. He is a full-time writer on aviation-related topics.
