Kaolin is a traditional Chinese medicine that is used to treat mild to moderate diarrhea, cholera and dysentery. It is also used topically as a drying agent and emollient on skin that is affected by poison oak, weeping poison ivy and poison sumac lesions. Kaolin is a kind of clay that occurs naturally in nature, but it is also created in laboratories.
Kaolin is used as a food additive and is also used to diagnose diseases in laboratories. In some products, kaolin is combined with other things to make medicines used for treating swelling and inflammation inside of the mouth and large intestine. Many different names for kaolin exist, such as, bolus alba, China clay, argilla, white bole and kaolin lourd.
