"Kennel cough" is a name that is used to refer to canine tracheobronchitis, which is very contagious among dogs. This infection causes inflammation on the bronchi and the trachea of the respiratory system.

Dogs suffer from kennel cough at least once in their lifetime, according to PetMD. Young puppies suffer severely from this infection due to their weak immune systems. Dogs are infected with kennel cough when they inhale a virus or bacteria. The respiratory track has mucus to trap infectious particles, but cold temperatures, cigarette smoke and poorly ventilated areas weaken this protection. Symptoms of kennel cough include reverse sneezes, runny nose, retching and fever.
