According to 1-800-PetMeds, kennel cough researchers are conflicted on whether kennel cough can be transmitted from dogs to humans. Kennel cough is transmitted through a bacteria that is similar to the one that causes whooping cough in humans.
WebMD explains that kennel cough is similar to the common cold in humans as it may come from one of many viral or bacterial strains. While kennel cough may or may not be contagious to humans, it is highly contagious in dogs. If possible, WebMD recommends that dogs that exhibit symptoms should be kept away from dog parks and remain inside until symptoms subside.
