Is kennel cough contagious to humans?

Kennel cough is not contagious to humans. However, kennel cough is contagious between dogs. Kennel cough is also referred to as canine infectious tracheobronchitis. Kennel cough can have many causes, in the same way that there are various causes for humans contracting a cold.

A prevalent cause for getting kennel cough is coming into contact with the bacterium called Bordetella. The main symptom of kennel cough is a consistent, powerful cough. Some dogs also display sneezing, eye discharge and a runny nose. The majority of kennel cough cases do not require treatment, but medications are helpful with increasing recovery rate and minimizing the severity of symptoms.
