Can dogs get sick from humans?

Dogs can get sick from humans. This concept, called reverse zoonosis, is being studied by veterinary researchers at Oregon State University and Iowa State University.
New strains of influenza can evolve from animals such as pigs and birds and transmit to humans in a process known as zoonosis. After the influenza pandemic strain H1N1, researchers realized it was possible for illness to be transferred in the opposite direction, from humans to animals. While there have been more cases of humans passing their flu-like symptoms to cats, there have been documented cases of dogs appearing to also get sick from humans.
