As of 2012, Kentucky became an open carry state, according to USA Today. After revisions of the state law, Kentucky permits open carry of firearms in city-owned facilities.
Open carry allows law abiding citizens to carry licensed, loaded firearms in public display. Firearms are only regulated by the state, overpowering the set restrictions and local ordinances, states USA Today. Schools, prisons and jails prohibit open carry. The state laws also allow colleges and universities to prohibit open carry. Before the law prohibiting local authority over firearms was passed, citizens were not sure where they were allowed to carry firearms, states USA Today.
