Kidney stone pain in men and women may affect the sides and back, below the ribs, the lower abdomen and groin. Symptoms may not appear until the mass moves around within the kidney or passes to the ureter, the tube connecting the kidneys to the bladder, according to Mayo Clinic.
Persons suffering from kidney stones may experience a burning pain during urination and discolored or foul-smelling urine; increased urination and nausea may also be present.
The pain may change locations and vary in intensity depending on the size and location of the kidney stone in the urinary tract, explains Mayo Clinic.
