What kind of compensation do you get for foster care?

As of 2012, most states offer a stipend for foster parents at a starting rate of around $15 to $20 per day. The availability and dollar amount of basic daily subsidies and other compensation for caregivers of foster children vary greatly between states.
In many states, compensation may be higher if the children in question are of a certain age or require special accommodations. In Connecticut, for example, families who receive the basic daily rate ranging from about $25 to $28 can also receive up to $133 for children who require special medical care. In many states, such as New Jersey, daily stipend increases are available as the foster child becomes older and has higher associated costs of care.
