What kind of habitat does a cheetah live in?

According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, cheetahs live primarily in open grassy habitats. They can also be found in areas with dry forests and savannah woodlands.
Female cheetahs are solitary creatures and live by themselves or are accompanied by a few dependent young. However, male cheetahs either live by themselves or form small groups of two to three males. These groups often consist of brothers, but unrelated cheetahs may sometimes form coalitions as well. In areas where prey is migratory, females follow the herds. Male coalitions then form small ranges of around 18 square miles and attempt to mate with any females that traverse the area.
