The MD-90 is a short- to medium-range airliner that was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. After the company merged with Boeing, it cancelled production of the MD-90, and the last one was built in 2000.
McDonnell Douglas launched the MD-90 program in 1988, and the plane first flew in 1993. The aircraft has several upgrades over its predecessor, the MD-80, including two turbofans that at the time were the most powerful rear-mounted engines on an airliner, and a larger fuselage that allowed for more passenger space. McDonnell Douglas made MD-90 models with seating for 12 premium class and 141 economy class passengers and with seating for 172 and 187 single class passengers.
