What kind of star is the sun?
By Forinfos - 13/02/2025 - 0 comments
The Sun is classified as a G2 star with a luminosity class of V. This means it's a common dwarf star with a surface temperature of about 9,941 degrees Fahrenheit.
The sun is in what astronomers call the main sequence, which means it's still burning hydrogen for fuel. It will start to leave the main sequence when it burns up its hydrogen supply and expands to become a red giant. Helium is the second most abundant element in the sun after hydrogen.
The sun makes up over 99 percent of the mass of the solar system, with much of the rest of the mass belonging to the planet Jupiter.
