Where do king cobras live?

King cobras live in forests around the world, mainly in India, China and Southeast Asia. The snakes are commonly found around bodies of water such as lakes and streams.

King cobras are venomous snakes that can grow up to 18.8 feet in length. The snakes feed on other snakes and small animals in forested areas to survive. With the ability to detect their prey from distances as far as 300 feet away and the ability to release neurotoxins, the king cobra is a major predator in its habitat. A single bite from a king cobra can kill an adult elephant. The snakes hunt at night and swallow their victim whole while the toxins digest it. In some countries, including India, killing a king cobra is illegal.
